Party supplies

We went to a Christmas party at a bookstore the other night, and Sylvia wanted to bring six stuffed animals. I tricked her into leaving three in the car. She was okay with that once we got there and had cookies.

Perspective

Toward what I hoped was the end of a long walk (meaning it took soooo long to go around the block), I was trying to get Sylvia to head back to the house more quickly, and she was trying to stall in any way possible. Finally, she sat still on her tricycle and said, "Mommy, it's ok if we sit here for a few minutes and look at the beautiful trees?"

Okay, Sylvia. You win. I give up.

Our moon

Sylvia has been very curious about the moon lately. Even during the day she asks, "Where's da moon?" I tell her it's on the other side of the world, so other people can see it. This doesn't answer the question for her, of course.

Last night she helped me grill some chicken by standing several feet away from the scary grill and pointing out the moon. "Look, deah's da moon!"

Tonight, at her suggestion we took our mugs of peppermint tea onto the porch steps so we could look at the moon. As we were sitting there, she pointed to our neighbors' porch light:

"Look, another moon!"

"Oh, that looks like a moon, but it's Ty and Lindsey's porch light."

"Oh."

She pointed back up to the sky.

"Deah's our moon."

Cousins

Kateri! And Jimmy!

What a great weekend we had.

Jimmy!

We got to take Jim to dinner this Friday night. We showed him a new neighborhood, Columbus Park, which is one of the oldest in KC and remains very Italian. Then we went to good old Barnes and Noble for dessert.
